These unique decorative ceramic tiles are handcrafted
in Tucson, Arizona USA, by skilled artisans using techniques as
old as western civilization.
The cuerda seca or dry line decoration technique
used on these tiles, sometimes referred to as a wax and glaze technique
is one of the oldest methods known to man for ceramic glaze decoration.
Examples of a similar form of this technique date as far back as
the ancient Assyrians of about 3000 years ago.
Today skilled artisans hand apply each glaze color
to an undecorated ceramic tile. When the glaze is dry the tile is
then fired in a ceramic kiln to a red hot 1850 degrees F, which
gives the tile both beauty and the durability of the ages. The artisans
of Masterworks Art Tiles have been making decorative ceramic tiles
for a quarter of a century.
